Welcome to Intertek’s Lighting Products Information Center

In 1896, Thomas Edison established the Lamp Testing Bureau within his manufacturing facility with the philosophy that he could introduce the safest lighting products by ensuring their quality and safety through product testing.

Many of Edison’s competitors did not share his attention to detail, quality and safety. For years, many of his competitors faced public scrutiny as their lighting products caused fire damage and sometimes death.

To address consumer concerns, Edison used product performance and safety tests to show that his products met established requirements. Many of Edison’s competitors began to recognize the value in this service and used the testing and verification services of Edison's Lamp Testing Bureau to bring more value to their own brands.

Over the last 100 years Edison’s company has evolved, yet his legacy still remains. Today, Intertek is just as concerned with your product's quality and safety in the market.
